A gem from the past

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 17, 2009, 6:18 AM

After almost a whole year of doing desperate freelance work - sometimes on subjects I will hardly ever like - I can consider myself back on track, i.e. doing animation and illustration for self-produced projects.

And experimenting with my dA journal skin again. (Thanks `electricjonny and *Aapis for the help!)

Also, while cleaning up my journal entries history I found this short piece I wrote about a little incident I had in dA long ago (so long I forgot it happened in the first place). Maybe you can relate to the situation. (Note: The following is a poetical re-creation with edutainment purposes, and not the actual facts.)

-Hi, what you doing?
-I'm enjoying this painting.
-I see. Do you like it?
-The colors are saturated with a light touch of grey.
-Huh... I see. Do you like it?
-Look at the corners. There is a strong gradient of hues crossing the painting in a diagonal path.
-Hell, I didn't notice! I find it quite an interesting effect. Do you feel so too?
-I feel the gradient gets stucked at the center of the painting. Watch the composition.
-So you don't like the composition?
-I can see a hole in the picture.
-Well, maybe because there is a hole painted on the canvas. Do you feel like falling inside?
-The mood is overall luminous, but it breaks the composition rules. The painting is formally unbalanced. The hole shouldn't be there.
-Oh? It seems a beautifully painted hole to me. It brings back memories of my childhood.
-Excuse me, did I miss something? Are we watching the same painting?
-Yes, of course. We are in front of the same canvas looking straight forward, aren't we?
-Take a look on values. What do you see?
-Hmmmm. A very rich gamut of shades, I feel that the bird in the tree out there is alive and singing in all his beauty.
-I can't see a clear step from one value to another. There is no true scale of values, just a continuous gradient again.
-So?
-The work fails to hold onto Western painting rules again.
-Well... It is a Chinese painting from the 15th Century, as you can see. It is inspired from feelings rather than academics.
-See, it is a painting, isn't it?
-Of course it is.
-What am I seeing?
-Frankly, I don't know.
-Hello, anybody? Haven't we said we are watching the same artwork minutes ago?
-Yes, but you seem to be watching it from the distance.
-Excuse me?
-I think it's more fun to dwell into the painting and write down the formalisms later. What do you think, want to jump inside it with me?
-See, buddy, I don't like the way you are talking to me. I gave you my respect all the time, and unless you give me the same respect I am not discussing about art with you any further.
-I see.
-Do you?
-Yes, I see that girl coming in. ;P
-;P
-Beg your pardon, gentlemen, any of you can help me out? This is my first time at an art exhibition and I'd like to see the paintings with someone who knows about art.
-You've come to the man! ;P ;P

November commissions: Info is here :pointr: [link]

As a side note, my good friend =cganimation is preparing his T-shirt Christmas sale, both for girls [link] and boys [link] , so you can choose your design while he finishes setting up the kids store. If asked, he will be more than willing to make a design upon your request!

Somewhere in Ukraine, after attending the art school, this 21-year-old girl has turned into an animation artist, and is now working as a color designer and animator at Tunguru Animation Studio. She likes to mess with vibrant colors, specially those ones difficult to obtain with traditional inks in prints, which in turn seem normal when displayed in a computer screen. While filling her gallery with girls wearing a mix of futuristic and retro clothing in saturated hues, she can be catched from time time dreaming with making her own film in a near future. If she keeps progressing this way, it will be rather soon.

Merry Christmas to ya all!

Wed Dec 24, 2008, 8:57 AM
:holly:  :santa:  Merry Christmas To Ya All!  :santa:  :holly:
Merry Christmas for everyone, be it a family gathering, or a wild night out, or both.

2008 isn't over yet, but at this time it's good to look back at the things that happened along the year and make a balance, in order to plan activites for 2009.

In a world of never-ending dualities, good things happen, and not-so-good things happen, too. Things that go well along with our original plans, and things that make us resource to Plan B. In my case, there was a lot of both sides, and although I had to give up several of my personal goals due to reasons out of my control, it has been worth the experience gained, so useful to not make back the same errors made in the past, but to boldly go on the good moves made in the present.

A word to be called often in 2009 is 'crisis.' It will be quite a tough year, specially fot those of us who don't work as employees with the support of a fixed-amount check at the end of the month, but I would like to mention that the word 'crisis', in spite of standing for 'danger,' also stands for 'opportunities.' In a world rushing into a final assault for taking the 21st century, with mixed ideals and a short memory for those things that made us happy when younger (or kids), the task of those people who have the skill of showing Hope and the possibility of a better and more fair world, opens infinite possibilities. When facing the danger of losing these values, let's find the opportunities to give the world back the things it shouldn't have lost in the first time, be it drawing, painting, writing, or animating characters. In these days, this responsibility is enormous.

Thanks to all of you for being there in one way or another, with your constructive comment always ready, or simply being a watcher. We are meeting back in a few days, in 2009. ;)

Back on power

The electrical power was restored at home on Sunday 30th, after only 4 days in the black. Considering our last blackout on January 2008 lasted for 10 days in a run, we were very lucky.

Volvió la luz luego de 4 días de estar a pura vela. A comparación del corte de luz que tuvimos en Enero de 2008 que duró 10 días, la sacamos muy barata. Lo cual no quiere decir nada sobre la calidad de empresa que es Edesur.

Gamer, mythologist, historian, and horse-race expert, this 28-years-old writer wants us to believe that she is a normal person who listens to classical music and opera while working on the second book out of a series of three, and who relaxes in the evenings by watching movies peacefully seated on the couch. But the truth is that while you are rock asleep on your bed at night, she lets one of her arms move frantically over sheets and sheets of paper by itself, leaving all sorts of 4-legged animals behind its trail, as this illustrator is a living experiment part of a heavy-duty bionic extensions program designed to obtain the ultimate artist (patent pending). At dawn, with arm smoking and eyes glowing, you can hear her mumbling - Pens... Lots of pens...
